Kilrock Stainless Steel Cleaner
You will no doubt be pleased to know that stainless steel does not actually “rust” but in fact can be affected by a strange phenomenon called “tea staining” It is a chemical reaction from water and salts in the air in which the stainless steel acts as a sort of catalyst. It is especially common in areas close to the coast but can occur anywhere especially where the light is constantly exposed to rain or dripping water.
The brown rust like marks ( “tea stains” ) are easily removed using a good quality non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner. We recommend Kilrock Stainless Steel Cleaner 80350. Simply spray on and then using an old toothbrush simply brush in the area of the stain which will soon be removed. To prevent from re-occurring the light must be cleaned regularly using a mild detergent such as washing up liquid and water. In areas very close to the coast it is advisable to coat the affected areas with a clear lacquer or varnish.
In no circumstances should you try and remove the “tea staining” using an abrasive cleaner or emery paper. Once scratched, the steel can then be permanently damaged.
